In Allama Iqbal’s poetry, Islamic identity occupies a central and prominent position. Through his verses, Iqbal instilled in the Muslims of the world a sense of their lost selfhood, dignity, and religious zeal. According to him, Islam is not merely a religion but a comprehensive code of life that guides a person towards self-awareness, action, knowledge, and spiritual elevation. In poems like Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa, Iqbal not only criticized the weakened state of the Muslim Ummah but also endeavored to reconnect them with their glorious past and the true spirit of faith. His poetry repeatedly reflects the teachings of the Qur’an, the exemplary life of the Prophet ﷺ, and the concept of Tawhid, which imbues his intellectual and poetic identity with an Islamic character. Moreover, Iqbal’s Islamic identity is not confined to religious devotion alone; it manifests as a practical and revolutionary call.
