Abstract

Ismat Chughtai’s Novel Ek Qatra Khoon vividly portrays the Karbala tragedy, emphasizing the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions against tyranny. The novel faithfully reflects historical events, including the socio-political context of Mecca and Medina and the oppression of Yazid, while exploring universal themes of justice, moral courage, loyalty, and human sacrifice. Through detailed character development and realistic depictions of fear, devotion, and steadfastness, Chughtai brings historical figures to life as timeless exemplars of virtue. The narrative combines historical accuracy with emotional depth, using dialogue and vivid scene-setting to convey ethical, spiritual, and psychological dimensions of the tragedy. Ek Qatra Khoon transcends mere historical retelling, offering profound insights into human emotions, moral struggle, and the enduring significance of truth and justice, marking it as a milestone in Urdu literature.
